TEACHING PHILOSOPHY

My role, as a scientist and teacher is to help all my students, regardless of age or experience find the scientist that lives within each of us. To foster curiosity, critical thinking and a thirst for knowing, not only for application within my classroom, but as skills that will carryover into all aspects of the great experiment that is life. To promote scientific literacy as a necessary skill for life.

Creating a safe, supportive, structured classroom environment in which students can thrive.

Encouraging my students to ask questions, test theories, and turn mistakes into learning opportunities.

Celebrating my students’ successes and achievements both in and out of my classroom.

Grounding science curriculum through translating it into real world, relevant applications.

Modeling my own enthusiasm for learning, sharing knowledge, and experimentation.
Rooting my teaching in thorough preparation and knowledge of the subject matter.
Always making space for learning through arts and play, at every age.
Remembering that a science educator is first and foremost a science communicator.
